Books for You
Below are the best books I’ve read on conceptualizing wealth, the power of investing in real estate, and getting started in the stock market. I only recommend books I’ve read and value.
The Psychology of Money
by: Morgan Housel
In summary; we are all humans making irrational decisions and money is just a thing to make decisions about. You’ll read stories of famous financial successes and failures to highlight themes of fear, greed, and and pure luck. There’s a huge focus on just enjoying the time we have in our life, i.e. what’s truly important in life and not to get too caught up in the façade of wealth.
The Almanack of Naval Ravikant
by: Eric Jorgenson
The best book I’ve read on wealth. It’s recommends leveraging specialized knowledge (knowledge already possessed or gained easily) to acquire various assets like stock, businesses, homes, etc.. Whichever is most interesting and enjoyable to you is what you should devote your time to. Ultimately creates passive income, making it lucrative even after you’ve moved on to the next thing.
I Will Teach You To Be Rich
by: Ramit Sethi
Excellent for beginners when it comes to the basics of money management. Ramit believes in ruthlessly sacrificing the expenses you don’t care about so you can unapologetically buy the things you love. He is also well known for his stance on renting homes rather than buying, but it’s a perfect example on spending on the things that are valuable in your life and ignoring how other people feel about them.
Quit Like a Millionaire
by: Kristy Shen & Bryce Leung
Largely focused on ideas of FI/RE, or Financial Independence/Retire Early, Kristy and Bryce give you the exact steps they followed to build an investment portfolio that constantly grows and can sustain itself, live a more frugal lifestyle and create enough of a foundation to feel safe enough to leave the workforce.
Smart Women Love Money
by: Alice Finn
Alice breaks down the basics of managing your investment portfolio in 5 steps that really are easy to follow. This is the foundation of which I built my portfolio on and a strategy I have always stuck to. Alice is also a huge supporter of empowering women to take control of their finances and create whatever future they want.
The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing
by: Mel Lindauer, Michael LeBoeuf, & Taylor Larimore
This is the most practical approach to start investing money in the stock market today written by the founder of Vanguard, aka my favorite place to buy index funds. John talks about where the hidden fees lie and how to keep your investments simple, and inexpensive so they just make you money.
Rich Dad Poor Dad
by: Robert Kiyosaki
Inarguably the #1 most recommended book to get started with real estate investing. Yes, it’s on every single list but that’s because it’s worth the read. Rethink how you spend your time and why passive income creates freedom. I highly recommend it for the foundational concepts.
The Millionaire Real Estate Investor
by: Gary Keller
Part self help, part relationship management, and part system development. Simple and basic concepts which is exactly what makes it a good starting point for beginners.
Long Distance Real Estate Investing
by: David Greene
Whether you’re investing next door or states away, I love this for the focus on scale, automation, and removing yourself from the day to day operations. Beyond that, it unlocks a way to think about investing in less expensive or better markets beyond your local home base.
